[mp3.1-00:20]
[mp3.1-11:40]

INTRODUCTION BY MASTER LƯƠNG SĨ HẰNG
[cross reference to “20230811 – GS VVETT – EN subtitles – Boston 1986 – VoVi Meditation Method – Full Document”]
0:00
My name is Luong-Si-Hang. I was born on November 13, 1923, in the province of Qui Nhon, Vietnam.
0:12
I came from a family with many children. At that time, the society I lived in was deficient in every aspect.
0:23
My mind was always preoccupied with how to grow up and help my family. As a boy, my school attendance was often interrupted by ill-health. I found that there was no opportunity for advancement, and I considered myself fortunate to have lived until the age of 30.
0:47
However, I continued to live, and all I saw was suffering on life's path. What I saw everywhere was suffering. Everyone was suffering. Vietnam was a country full of suffering.
1:04
When there were kings, only the kings were enjoying life, while the common people experienced hardship. If they were lucky, they would survive. Otherwise, they would die. And life went on.
To earn a living, I started different business ventures, and worked hard, but I was never successful.
1:31
I became discouraged and questioned myself: “What is life's goal? Why does mankind never reach happiness? Humans are smart enough to live together peacefully, but they are competing against each other, and they don't know how to love one another!”
1:46
My mind was then searching for God and the Buddhas: “Who are God and the Buddhas?” “They are the supreme lightness and purity of the upper spheres.”
1:54
“Who is Buddha?” “Buddha is a person who has freed himself from suffering and all karmic worries to return to his pure and serene nature.”
2:02
I kept thinking about God and the Buddhas, about the Sacred Scriptures, and about the people who have dedicated their lives to spiritual perfection.
2:10
I truly loved and respected them. When I listened to the Buddhist scriptures, I felt very attracted to them but I didn't understand their meaning. My mind was constantly involved in philosophical thinking.
Then I noticed a change in my friend: his face was brighter and his eyes were livelier every day, and he talked in a very wise manner.
2:32
I asked him how he had improved himself. He told me that he practiced a method of spiritual perfection. At that time, I only enjoyed life pleasures, and never paid attention to spiritual matters.
2:43
So, I was discouraged when hearing about his spiritual aspiration. I didn't understand the meaning of spirituality.
2:50
Then my friend agreed to introduce me to his Master, Mr. Do-Thuan-Hau, who lived at 93 Phan Thanh Gian Street in Dakao, a district of the city of Saigon.
3:02
When I met his Master, an elderly man, I was impressed by his very bright eyes and his intelligence.
3:16
He spoke about God and the Buddhas, mountains, and waters; he spoke about many things that I could not understand; he spoke about my childhood with great precision.
3:27
He said that my family liked to dress me up like a little girl, and that everyone loved and helped me a lot.
I was surprised how he could know about my childhood?
3:47
He had to be purer and more serene than I was!
I wanted to know why this person knew so many things; he was also a human being, but he knew so many things!
3:59
In order to find out, I decided to bring the best people to test him. So I brought two friends, a hypnotist, and a magician.
4:17
We all went to visit him. My young hypnotist friend told him: “Please, Sir, I will hypnotize you!” Then he started hypnotizing Mr. Do.
4:31
After a while, the elderly man said: “I am an old man; please have pity on me; I didn't do anything wrong. Why do you want to hypnotize me?”
4:38
But my friend kept attempting to hypnotize him. After a while, my friend felt that his eyes were red, and he saw all heaven and earth in red.
4:49
He became frightened. He asked me in Chinese to act as his translator and ask the elderly man for help to save his eyes.
5:01
I refused and said that he could ask himself in Vietnamese. He then begged the elderly man to help him.
5:11
Mr. Do just smiled. He said: “I already told you that I am old and worthless. You shouldn't hurt me. Do you understand what energy is now? Do you understand what fire is? The fire that you used to burn me didn't burn me, so it came back to you. Just sit down quietly, and everything will return to normal.”
5:29
Indeed, the fire subsided after a while, and my friend's eyes returned to normal. He then bowed in front of the elderly man, and asked him for guidance on the path of spiritual perfection.
5:46
My other friend is a magician. He worked as a security guard for a movie theatre, and could be hit on the head without being harmed when he recited his magic words.
5:58
Mr. Do (also called Mr. Tu) told him that a monk's spirit was constantly following him. Did he want to eliminate the spirit, or keep living with him?
6:09
My friend revealed that he had received a talisman in Cambodia to guard his life, and asked Mr. Do to help him exorcize the spirit.
6:16
All three of us asked him to teach us the way of spiritual perfection. Mr. Do said that we were three dangerous pals.
6:28
As an initiation ceremony, we had to buy some incense and candles, pay homage to the spiritual Founder, and promise to dedicate our whole life to spiritual perfection without cheating.
6:41
I bought some incense and candles and asked to be initiated. My hypnotist friend made better progress than I did. When he saw light and so on; he was praised by Mr. Tu.
6:53
I was the one who was corrected the most. I was told that I was inadequate for spiritual practice, and that I should make great efforts.
7:01
I just applied myself with dedication. I didn't speak a word. I just came to listen to his teachings, and kept practicing.
7:09
I found that life was full of suffering. There was nothing for me to rejoice about. I practiced silently, day and night, all alone, such that my family became opposed to me, and everyone was rejecting me.
7:22
Every day, I only ate one bowl of rice and a tomato to survive. I ate just enough to live and regain my original serenity.
7:30
Day and night, I practiced in a corner, and didn't even have a bed for sleeping. I started to lead a life of spiritual perfectionsince 1957, and kept practicing until today.
I have encountered innumerable obstacles, in daily life and spiritual life, from the world of invisible beings and evil spirits.
7:56
But my mind is resolute to advance on the path of spiritual self-improvement.
In order to find happiness, man has to revitalize his spiritual consciousness.
8:10
The body does not bring happiness. It is subject to illness and can't resolve anything. Only the spiritual consciousness can resolve everything in a satisfactory manner.
8:19
That is why I dedicate myself to spiritual perfection.
In Vietnam, many people came to my house to ask about spiritual matters. I answered all questions thoroughly.
8:29
Since then, I am never free. Once abroad, I have never stopped helping the Vietnamese people with their sorrowful hearts.
8:38
When leaving the homeland, everyone is in a state of emotional grievance, and would like to find more tranquility and happiness.
8:47
For my part, I have attained very good results from my daily spiritual practice. I have acquired serenity, and I would like to present the method that I am currently practicing to humanity.
8:54
Humanity is thirsty for knowledge. Man is searching for his innate abilities, and his own inner mental order, but he can't understand himself.
9:02
Every individual has potentials in this universe. Our body is a microcosm composed of the five elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, which correspond to the five internal organs: Lungs, Liver, Kidneys, Heart, and the Stomach-Spleen-Pancreas area, each having a color and light which provide the divine light and color at the organ level and brain level.
9:19
When we lose our serenity, we also lose the light in our inner consciousness. Only a life of spiritual perfection and the practice of meditative contemplation will help us restore what we have lost.
9:30
We see clearly that life circumstances are our teacher. Despite all kinds of deprivation in this life, if we apply ourselves to attain serenity, and harmonize with everyone, we'll have everything.
9:43
For example, today, the Vietnamese people had to travel around all five continents to find what they have lost in many previous lives.
9:53
People who lead a life of spiritual perfection will see clearly that they have lost their innate serenity.
10:02
In this materialistic society, the average person is attracted by material gains, and money is highly praised; but at last, only the spiritual consciousness can release the hidden sorrow that he can't disclose to others.
10:16
Everyone must understand himself, and must practice on his own to reach his inner serenity and resolve suffering.
10:21
Whether he is in a high social position or a lowly one, from the president to a plain citizen, everyone carries his own worries without being able to resolve them.
10:30
Serene people are people who lead a life of spiritual perfection and who can balance the energy of their body and mind to harmonize with the energy of the universe to produce pure and light vibrations.
10:44
If we cannot harmonize with the pure vibrations of the spiritual universe, we cannot have serenity.
10:52
We are constantly torn by life's actions and reactions. Our sensuous desires will have no limit, and they will lead us nowhere.
11:00
Throughout my life of spiritual perfection, I realize that human being is too agitated, and lacks patience.
11:05
Therefore, he needs to apply the Vo-Vi meditation method which I have been practicing and with which I have experienced good results.
If we return to our true serene nature, we'll be free from suffering.
For the first 6 months, those who wish to begin the life of spiritual perfection should do the 3 exercises of Mental Invocation of NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT, Concentration Of Spiritual Energy, and Lying Down Abdominal Breathing.
If we decide to lead a life of spiritual perfection, we must make the vow to follow a certain spiritual discipline.
In order to regain our inner serenity, we must harmonize with the vibrations of the original principle, with the vibrations of NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT, through mental (silent) invocation.
Mental invocation:
“NAM MO TAY PHUONG CUC LAC THE GIOI QUAN THE AM BO TAT (Nam Mo Bodhisattva Quan-The-Am of the Western World of Supreme Felicity)
1.2 CONCERNTRATION OF SPIRITUAL ENERGY (SOI HỒN)
Now we come to the Exercise of Concentration of Spiritual Energy to regulate the energy of the nervous system and the brain.
As we practice the mental invocation of NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT, our energy vibrations will slowly commune with the sphere of purity and lightness.
This exercise of concentration of spiritual energy will help us release the karma from our consciousness and reduce our agitation. We'll turn within more easily.
After the preliminary exercise of mental invocation, we proceed to the exercise of concentration of spiritual energy, and press on the following acupoints. When we press lightly on those acupoints, energy will concentrate here.
After a while, we'll feel heaviness at this point, as if a wheel is rolling right here. When we close our eyes, light will project out at that point.
Sit straight like this. Practice this concentration exercise from 5 minutes to 15 minutes at most.
It will regulate the energy of the brain and nervous system. We will be less distracted by external events and drawn into the worries of daily life.
Once the spiritual energy is concentrated, our thoughts will be directed toward the True Knowledge, and we'll be able to detach from the karma in our consciousness.
While doing this exercise, if foreign thoughts assail us such as worldly matters or business issues, we should keep concentrating on the mental invocation of NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT.
After a while, it will release all your worries in life.
During the whole exercise of concentration of spiritual energy, remember to focus on the frontal psychic center located between the two eyebrows, and keep concentrating on it constantly.
The human character tends to bend on one side or another. This method will change a person's character into a righteous person. He will keep all his promises and never break them.
Parents can hardly change the character of their child. The child must correct his own character in order to reach harmony and tolerance.
This is a demonstration of the exercise for the Concentration of Spiritual Energy.
What is it for? It helps to converge the flow of energy coming from your organs through the ears, the eyes, and the nose.
We have never concentrated this flow of energy before. So, we will now use three fingers in each hand to focus this energy.
The flow of energy will concentrate here. As you see, my friend is practicing the exercise of concentration of spiritual energy.
Sit straight, with eyes closed, gaze straight ahead while focusing on this point. When the energy is reunited, you will feel a heavy pressure at this location, and from there light will project out.
After a period of practicing this technique, your energy will be focused here, and this area will raise up. There will be a circle here, which characterizes the return to serenity and emptiness.
1.3 ABDOMINAL BREATHING WHILE LAYING DOWN (Chiếu Minh)
Now we come to the Lying Down Abdominal Breathing Exercise: Keep your eyes closed, and your tongue curled up against the upper gum, incisors against incisors like in the exercise of concentration of spiritual energy.
Keep focusing on your frontal psychic center, while thinking of your navel.
Smoothly and deeply inhale while pushing your abdomen well outward, then exhale by pressing your abdomen inward. Mentally count 1 for one breath cycle.
Count 2, 3, 4, 5, until 12. Then take a short pause.
Then continue a new phase with 11 breath cycles, counting from 1 to 11. Then take a short pause.
Then continue from 1 to 10, from 1 to 9, from 1 to 8, from 1 to 7, from 1 to 6, from 1 to 5, from 1 to 4, from 1 to 3, from 1 to 2, then 1 last breath cycle. Then take a pause.
Why do we need this exercise?
The exercise of concentration of spiritual energy restores the equilibrium of the nervous system and the brain.
During this breathing exercise, keep your tongue curled up against the upper gum, incisors against incisors.
Focus on your frontal psychic center and direct the thought to your navel. Why do we breathe like this?
The exercise of lying down for abdominal breathing regulates the digestive system and brings in pure energy to restore its functions.
The brain and the digestive system provide energy to the human mind. Thus, we must take care of the brain and the digestive system.
When both are in harmony, the astral body will become lighter, and the person will be healthy.
To prevent illnesses, both the mind and the digestive system must always be pure and light.
After the exercise of lying down abdominal breathing, the practitioner will have a very sound sleep.
It is best to practice this exercise 2 to 3 times per day.
Then the brain, the digestive system, and the liver will be regulated, and the blood circulation will improve significantly. This is a demonstration of the abdominal breathing exercise. Teeth touching together, tongue curled up touching the upper gum. Concentrate at the point between the eyebrows and look onward to the navel.
Begin by inhaling and pushing your abdomen outward, then exhaling and pulling your abdomen inward.
The breathing helps to stimulate the colon and eliminate toxins from the body.
Breathe in. Count each breath cycle, up to 12. Then pause.
Breathe in. Count each breath cycle, up to 11. Then pause. Count from 1 to 10. And take a pause.
Count from 1 to 9 and take a pause. Continue this exercise counting one number less for each breathing phase. Count 1 to 8, 1 to 7, 1 to 6, 1 to 5, 1 to 4, 3, 2, 1. We eventually return to zero.
To see the light, we must be pure and neutral. Profane people always carry many concerns, and they can't return to their true nature of nothingness.
The practice of this exercise will improve the conditions of the internal organs, and one will become purer and lighter.
One will feel happier, as the toxins are eliminated from the digestive system. One will become healthie, and will have a good rest at night followed by a refreshing day in the morning. This exercise is very easy to do.
Man pays attention to sports and muscle build-up, but neglects the importance of his colon and his brain. If his colon is too contaminated, his brain will be disturbed. If the colon functions properly, the brain will be well-balanced. Thus, the abdominal breathing exercise will help the meeting of the soul and its astral body in the area of spiritual consciousness.
If we are not distracted by worldly concerns, our soul and astral body will have the opportunity to meet each other more easily.
For the beginners, this technique will help to improve patience needed for work and good judgement.
The breathing will clear away the overheated energy of the liver, and the colon is cleared. It helps to regain the composure of mind, and a good bowel movement necessary of a happy mind.
This exercise will ease their training toward the spiritual path, and simultaneously facilitate the fulfillment of their daily activities.
3. AFTER 6 MONTHS
3.1 MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT (NGUYỆN) & CONCENTRATION OF ENERGY (SOI HỒN)
(After practicing the Mental Invocation of NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT, and the exercise of Lying Down Abdominal Breathing during the first 6 months,) we will start the exercises of Concentration of Spiritual Energy, Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention, and Meditative Contemplation. Here is the demonstration.
3.1.1. MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT:
To begin, close the eyes, and keep the tongue curled up touching the upper gum, incisors against incisors.
Always look straight ahead. Focus on the frontal psychic center, and think of the top of the head.
Invoke mentally 3 times: NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT like this.
NAM MO TAY PHUONG CUC LAC THE GIOI QUAN THE AM BO TAT,
NAM MO LONG HOA GIAO CHU DI LAC, Please attest to the sincerity of your disciple whose name is (give your full name...) in studying the spiritual perfection to reach enlightenment and soul liberation.
Repeat once more: NAM MO TAY PHUONG CUC LAC THE GIOI QUAN THE AM BO TAT
NAM MO LONG HOA GIAO CHU DI LAC, Please attest to the sincerity of your disciple whose name is (give your full name...) in studying the spiritual perfection to reach enlightenment and soul liberation.
NAM MO A DI DA PHAT, Van Vat Thai Binh (Grace, Peace be with all creatures).
Then bow 3 times.
3.1.2. CONCENTRATION OF SPIRITUAL ENERGY (SOI HỒN)
Start the exercise of Concentration of Spiritual Energy:
Keep your tongue curled up against the upper gum, incisors against incisors.
(Please refer back to all the explanations given on this exercise in the previous “During The First 6 Months” chapter.)
Practice this exercise at least for 5 minutes and at most 15 minutes.
The exercise of Concentration of Spiritual Energy regulates the brain and assists in focusing the energy at the middle point between the eyebrows.
The human mind is the most precious possession on earth. Without a well-balanced mind, one can accomplish nothing. When the mind is regulated and well-balanced, we'll be successful in all our endeavours.
3.2. CONTINUOUS BREATHING IN CYCLES WHILE SEATED –
(or CYCLICAL BREATHING OF NON-RETENTION WHILE SEATED?
Or CYCLICAL CONTINUOUS BREATHING WHILE SEATED?
Or SEATED CYCLICAL BREATHING WITHOUT RETENTION?) (PHÁP LUÂN THƯỜNG CHUYỂN)
After the Concentration of Spiritual Energy,
This exercise helps to develop the energy of the brain.
Humans have strong health thanks to the pure energy of the universe. Thus, we must use this pure energy and bring it in to purify our microcosm and strengthen our body.
The Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention also helps to open up our consciousness.
At that time, when meditating, our head will always be surrounded by a bright halo of energy.
Remember to completely flatten your stomach when exhaling. This breathing exercise releases all the toxins in our body.
We meditate at midnight, or at the Hour of the Rat (11pm-1am). This is the hour when Heaven and Earth are opening up. We take advantage of this beneficial hour to release the impure energy in our body.
The toxins will be eliminated the next day via bowel movements and urination. When we meditate, we eliminate the toxins with our breathing exercise.
Remember to give yourself the order: “Fill up the navel, the chest, up to the head!”
If we practice with dedication to eliminate all toxins from our body, our energy will be pure and light, and easily concentrated in our brain.
People usually care only about physical exercise to strengthen their muscles, but they don't know how to exercise their nervous system so that it flows freely.
Only by breathing in the pure energy of heaven and earth, the energy of the universe, will we be able to release the toxins in our bodies.
We will have a sound mind and a sound body. They always have to go in tandem.
The Vo-Vi method advocates a middle path between social life and spiritual life.
When our body is well-balanced, we'll never utter irresponsible words to hurt our neighbors.
If we are always patient and live in good harmony with everyone, we won't encounter any retributions in the future.
People whose spiritual root is heavy, and who can never see Buddha in spite of long years of practice, should practice the cyclical breathing of non-retention more often.
If they practice with dedication, their energy will flow more freely, their inner wisdom will grow, and they will reach serenity.
You will feel warmth in the whole body after doing 6 breath cycles correctly.
Those who don't feel the warmth in their body have a blocked digestive system. When the energy doesn't flow freely, the blood circulation also does not function properly. In those cases, one must undergo a cleansing program of the digestive system to restore the brightness of the mind.
This is a demonstration of the Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention.
Breathe evenly. Slowly exhale while pressing your abdomen inward. Slowly inhale while pulling your abdomen outward.
Remember to give to yourself the order to “Fill up the navel, the chest, up to the head!”
If you breathe correctly, 6 breath cycles are enough. Some people breathe in dozens of times, but this doesn't bring results. Doing 6 breath cycles correctly is sufficient.
Now, I am showing this to a friend who is learning this method of meditation. He is currently doing the Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention.
First, exhale completely while pressing your abdomen inward. Then slowly inhale while pulling your abdomen outward.
Always say to yourself: “Fill up the navel, the chest, up to the head!”
Sit straight, look straight ahead and focus on the middle point between the eyebrows.
When you breathe correctly, you'll feel the energy circulating in your whole body, and your limbs are warmed up. In warm weather, doing this breathing exercise should make you perspire. In colder weather, you'll be warmed up.
3.3. MEDITATIVE CONTEMPLATION (THIỀN ĐỊNH)
When pure energy is supplied to the five internal organs in sufficient amount, we'll easily enter the state of meditative contemplation.
Continue to look straight ahead and focus on the frontal psychic center during the meditative contemplation.
Remain in this posture as long as you can.
Spiritual cultivation means to provide a complete freedom to the soul and to restore equilibrium to body and mind.
When we reach serenity, our soul will leave our body freely to learn about the spiritual Tao and other sublime matters from the upper spheres.
Our spiritual interest will become more intense each day. We'll be able to easily meditate for many hours, and we'll want to bring the Truth to humanity.
When people come to talk to us, we'll share with them the Truth into which we have gained insight. They will also feel light and happy.
A person will only understand true happiness when he knows his own microcosm and its relationship with the spiritual light of the universe, and when his soul can leave and return to his physical body with ease.
In this ordinary world, people are governed by feelings of love and hate against one another, which is completely useless for their soul.
To love oneself is to restore equilibrium to one's body and mind.
Our presence on this earth is a miracle.
The human brain has invented and built everything on this earth: Bridges, highways, cars, airplanes. All these accomplishments come from the human mind, and this is also a miracle.
If we believe in God, we'll see that God is present everywhere.
God is suffering with us, and He also accompanies us on the path toward purity and lightness.
The more we love God, the more our consciousness is filled with serenity, and we can easily forgive and love one another.
We understand that the right spiritual method will restore equilibrium to body and mind.
A person who lives without a balanced body and mind will become mentally unbalanced.
To understand our human organism means to understand the Principle that the Light of the universe is helping our spiritual progression in this temporary world.
In this materialistic society, people are only concerned about money, but they don't know if money can save them.
No, money does not bring spiritual salvation! We come to this earth empty-handed, and we'll leave this earth empty-handed.
No one can take a penny with him when leaving this planet.
We are responsible for cultivating our compassion and wisdom.
Then we'll be able to go anywhere.
Anywhere we go, we'll bring peace and happiness to everyone.
When we know how to truly love ourselves, we also understand how to truly love our parents.
Similarly, we also understand how to truly love humanity.
We don't know how to sew the shirt that we are wearing, and we need the help of others.
So, how can we hate others and invent weapons to kill others?
This is a major crime on this earth.
The most important task is to perfect our nature and enlighten our consciousness to advance on the spiritual path. The weapon of love and forgiveness is essential to this world and to humanity in daily life.
The celestial mechanism is constantly in motion; storms and hurricanes are threatening at any time.
An agitated soul will only bring additional sorrow.
We practice this Vo-Vi method to dissipate sorrow and wrong doings from our inner consciousness.
Once we reach tranquility, we will understand the temporariness of this world.
We will gladly offer our contribution in accordance with our knowledge, and we will love every living creature, even a blade of grass.
A blade of grass can decorate our home, but a blade of grass also has its own life like us.
All human beings are born with a mouth with which to eat to live, and all grasses are born with roots to absorb water for living.
Thus, all living creatures have the same life force.
When we understand this, we can accomplish all things easily.
Man lives on sand, but he knows how to use sand to make glasses and windows to serve mankind.
But what is a glass as result?
It is a symbol of equality among all races and social statuses, a model of perfect sacrifice, an example of the evolution of mankind.
We see that the glass has to undergo hardship and suffering before taking its current form.
Similarly, we must apply ourselves to spiritual practice with great dedication to release all worries and wrongdoings from our inner consciousness.
A spiritual method must release impure energy and increase pure energy in order to restore inner balance.
When we have regained our original equilibrium, and the lightness and purity from the upper spheres, we will no longer worry about the collapse of our houses, the dangers of floods and hurricanes, and the lack of money.
Everyone possesses the intrinsic principle of eternal life.
We all have the virtue of compassion. We know how to love our body, how to love our wife or husband and children, our family, and humanity.
But we refuse to cultivate this virtue of compassion. Without serenity, how can we achieve a noble virtue of compassion?
We borrow this spiritual method to re-establish our noble virtue of compassion, to restore the brightness of our spiritual light, to truly love and forgive everyone.
Then, we'll have better opportunities than ordinary people.
We will not generate material waste which causes pollution and unrest in the present society.
Even our air is polluted because of people's greed.
They want to accomplish something for themselves regardless of the consequences.
We all have a homeland in Heaven.
Hence, all spiritual adepts want to return to their true homeland.
People who believe in God want to go to the land of God.
People who believe in Buddha want to go to Nirvana.
If we believe in Buddha, we must reach purity and lightness to commune with Buddha.
The proof is obvious - for example, the refugees have to come to America for the American people to help them.
If they do not come to America, the Americans won't be able to help them.
If we are not pure and light, we can't go back to Heaven, and God cannot help us.
In this world, people keep holding onto their bad character and bad habits. A wicked person remains wicked. A sensuous person remains sensuous.
Nothing is resolved. Impure energy clings to our bodies and burdens our minds with money, love, and other karmic relations.
We waste a whole lifetime without a chance to progress.
When we understand, we resolutely cut off all these worldly attachments, and only think about elevating ourselves.
We must arrive at the land of Heaven where everyone is wise and intelligent.
No one hates anyone; we all help each other, and build a community based on compassion and benevolence.
Life has taught us that we must work hard to achieve results. Life is a precious teacher. If we want to earn money, we must specialize in a certain profession.
However, being a specialist without order in our life is bound to produce failure.
Success is assured for a specialist with order.
When you have become a specialist, you'll earn money very easily.
Once you earn money easily, you'll love your specialty and would like to expand it toward infinity.
Similarly, the light of compassion is infinite, and we are specializing in cultivating our virtue of compassion. We'll want to love and help everyone.
We'll see that money is temporary while compassion and spiritual virtue are highly desirable.
The whole of humanity is yearning for compassion and spiritual virtue.
We practice the exercise of Meditative Contemplation, and we remain in the state of serene contemplation to experience both the earthly world and the pure and light celestial scenery.
As we go and advance in our search, we should close our eyes to elevate our soul toward higher spheres.
The soul will understand the path of deliverance, and will no longer be attached to this temporary world, no longer be unable to evolve.
POST-MEDITATION MASSAGE (XẢ THIỀN)
After meditation, we terminate the Meditative Contemplation with a massage.
Both the Yin and Yang energies are currently flowing. When our hands are joined like this (Sumadhi-Mudra Seal), the two Yin and Yang energies are flowing freely.
When we keep our tongue curled up against the upper gum, incisors against incisors, we concentrate the three energies: Tinh - Khi – Than (seminal or sexual essence energy, vital breath energy, and spiritual energy) which also contribute to the spiritual strength.
Lay your hands on the top of the head to converge the energy back to your body. Slide the hands down while holding the earlobes between the two fingers and pull down on the ears while pressing the earlobes.
Acupoints that correspond to different organs reside on those earlobes.
Pull like this 36 times. This massage helps regulate the blood circulation and the energy flow in the meridians.
When we rub our feet together, we also rub the acupoints on the sole of our feet to restore warmth to the body and regulate the circulation.
All the exercises that I have practiced are essential to restore health to the body, equilibrium to the mind, and regain a well-balanced inner mental order.
During the day, we must go to work and earn a living by making use of our own abilities. We must work with sincerity and honesty.
However, we must first know ourselves to be truly honest and sincere with ourselves and others.
If we don't know ourselves, how can we help others?
We must know ourselves better. We must be sincere, and dispel agitation in our body and mind.
We have to always be sincere and honest with everyone. All societies in this world need honest people. We must be sincere with ourselves.
We are worthy human beings on this earth if we know how to love ourselves, our parents, and humanity.
In conclusion, this meditation method brings inner peace and improves both body and mind in accordance with the evolution cycle.
Despite upheavals of the celestial mechanism, we know the origin of the soul and its infinite evolution cycle.
If we know how to cultivate our soul and our inner serenity, we know that we'll keep nurturing the thought to return to our true homeland where serenity reigns, even if we have to leave this body behind. This earth is just a temporary place.
Today, modern science has proved that many satellites can leave this planet. Our soul is capable of going much farther than these devices.
When we cultivate ourselves on the spiritual path, we keep researching and wediscover many useful inventions for mankind. We'll contribute to the future peace of the world.
On the other hand, if we just close our eyes and believe blindly in our Master or Buddha, we just harm ourselves.
Only self-improvement and self-progress are the right method.
We have a mind, we can make inventions, this is our highest freedom. Our soul must be totally free.
Only an independent soul can truly develop, and be conscious of its responsibilities toward its physical body, the whole universe, and humanity.
Our heart and mind must always be ready to develop and progress constructively. We see that the sunlight is serving all living creatures without rest. So, our mind must follow this fine example for further advancement.
The Great Compassion of the Lord is helping all living beings from a blade of grass to a worm. They all benefit from the Lord's blessings.
If we discriminate against one another, we just create our own suffering.
We must understand that to awaken our consciousness means to live in harmony and tolerance, to harmonize with all spheres, and to elevate our consciousness toward infinity. This is the right spiritual Dharma.
After many years of spiritual practice, I realize clearly that if a person doesn't know how to correct himself, he's not good for anything.
Even a political leader who doesn't know how to perfect his nature and enlighten his consciousness will only bring harm to his country.
The soul is the master of the microcosm. This is an enormous task.
If one doesn't perfect one's nature and enlighten one's consciousness to continue the spiritual progression, one only wastes the opportunity of being born as a human being.
Life's actions and counter-actions will bring us closer to serenity, and will not destroy us.
Even Hell is helping humans to progress further. Thus, the soul never dies.
When it goes to Hell, it only makes repayment for its crimes, then continues its progression. It doesn't die.
Thus, the essence of the human being is Light. ,You must turn within to see your inner light. Do not lose your inner light! You'll regret this loss for many lifetimes.
I sincerely share with you my knowledge. At the age of 70, everyone sees that I am very healthy, and my thoughts are always directed toward loving and helping others. I dearly love and respect everyone who is making progress.
In reality, our true nature is lightness and purity. When we are born, we are pure and light, free from intransigence and passions.
As we grow up, we follow this group and drop the other, and create our own karma and sorrow.
When we visit a hospital, we see the result of people's actions and their current afflictions. In earlier days, they held high positions, but now they are plagued by illness and don't know where they will go when leaving this earth.
We must understand the law of cause and effect. If we are doing charitable deeds and live an orderly life, our death will occur in an orderly manner.
If we cause imbalance and commit evil deeds, we must suffer the consequences.
People who have the opportunity for spiritual cultivation and have obtained deep insight into spirituality and achieved good results, can contribute what they have learned to everyone.
Regardless of our religious affiliation, if we practice with diligence and correctness, we'll eventually have the opportunity to be the successors who will guide other successors in their spiritual progression. This is the responsibility of each spark of light on this earth.
I sincerely thank you for your attention.
3. ADDITIONAL EXERCISES
3.1.- NURTURING & INVIGORATING THE PURE VITAL BREATH (CHƯỞNG HƯỞNG DƯỠNG KHÍ)
Advanced practitioners who feel the energy concentrating on the top of their head should practice this exercise every morning around 5 to 6 am. Go outdoors in the open air.
Concentrate at the top of your head. Then, simultaneously through your nose and cranial psychic center (on the top of your head), inhale vigorously and deeply, then exhale slowly through your nose and cranial psychic center.
Do this breathing exercise 3 times. Your head will feel light and pure.
3.2. INVOCATION ON THE EIGHTFOLD ESSENTIAL POINTS (MẬT NIỆM BÁT CHÁNH)
We must set aside some time daily to practice the invocation on the eightfold essential points from 6pm to 10pm in the evening.
How do we practice this invocation?
Only practitioners who have gained spiritual energy can do this exercise.
1. Concentrate on this point (the upper lip), and start to invoke mentally Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the upper lip to the tip of the nose, such that the vibration of the word Phat will reverberate on the tip of the nose.
2. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the nose tip to the frontal psychic center, such that the vibration of the word Phat will reverberate (between the two eyebrows.
3. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the frontal psychic center to the center of the forehead, such that the vibration of the word Phat will reverberate at the middle of the forehead.
4. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the center of the forehead to the front upper head, about 3 fingers above your hairline, such that the vibration of the word Phat will reverberate at the front upper head.
5. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the front upper head to the top of the head, such that the vibration of the word Phat will reverberate at the top of the head.
6. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the top of the head to the point behind your head which is opposite to the frontal psychic center, such that the vibration of the word Phat will end here.
7. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from the point behind the head to the point on the backbone between the lungs, such that the vibration of the word Phat will end here. This point is also called Hiep-Tich (Reunion-Accumulation).
8. Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat while directing your thought from this point to the point on the backbone between the kidneys, such that the vibration of the word Phat will end here.
Do this invocation exercise 3 times with the eyes closed.
Practitioners who have gained spiritual energy will feel the flow of energy moving clearly at each point during this invocation.
The longer you practice, the brighter and stronger you'll feel the energy at each point.
Only then will one be able to inspect oneself daily to avoid wrongdoings, because one's energy is flowing freely instead of being blocked, which means that something is wrong.
If you feel no energy at a certain point, it means that the energy is blocked at that point.
It means that we are still too attached to worldly concerns. We should detach ourselves, and sincerely repent our mistakes. Then, the energy will flow again freely, and light up at each point.
When all the eightfold essential points light up, the person has become pure and light. He will no longer speak carelessly. All his words are filled with philosophy to help others advance spiritually.
This demonstration explains the Invocation on the Eightfold Essential Points.
People who have gained spiritual energy should practice this invocation to inspect themselves.
We mentally invoke Nam from this point.
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat, the last word is at this location....
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat, the last word is at this location....
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat, the last word is at this location....
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat, the last word is at this location....
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat, the last word is at this location....at the Seal Center (Ngoc Cham),
Nam-Mo-A-Di-Da-Phat ends at the point of Reunion-Accumulation (Hiep Tich) then stops at the backbone point between your two kidneys (Than Thuy).
There are 8 locations in total.
Repeat this invocation 3 times. You can practice this exercise daily between 6 pm and 10pm to control the flow of pure energy in your body.
Only those who have reached a certain level of lightness in their meditation practice can do this exercise. It is not advised for beginners.
Only through a long practice of the spiritual method will you be able to possess and guide this flow of energy, so that you can control your actions.
Long-standing practitioners will see these eight locations light up during their invocation.
The brightness of the light at each point depends on the progression level of the practitioner. Each location will become brighter and brighter, as the practitioner achieves more lightness and purity.
When he loses this light, he will feel disturbed and unhappy.
A human being must have a way to inspect his daily activities.
If one cannot control the flow of pure energy through these 8 essential points, one will never be able to control oneself. One can very easily do wrong.
Thus, this spiritual method provides a way to verify the progress of one's soul and perform self-inspection. Losing the light at these locations will only bring agitation.
3.3. PRAYER AFTER A MEAL (CẦU NGUYỆN SAU BUỔI ĂN)
After a meal, we have to pray with sincerity, because we are indebted toward all the living beings who have contributed to the good functioning of our organism.
We direct our thoughts toward these flows of vital energy while invoking silently, not out loud, the following prayer that we have to learn by heart:
NAM MO BAT NHA: May the energy, concentrated
BA LA MAT DA: from the top of my head, which is related
SAC BAT DI KHONG: to the authentic universal power,
KHONG BAT DI SAC: be converged to its origin;
THOI NHUT KIEN: color and form return to emptiness.
NGU UAN GIAI KHONG: Grant that living beings inside
THO TUONG HINH THUC: this micro-universe be blessed
DIET PHUC NHU THI: and unified with me so that
DO NHAT THIET KHO ACH: all suffering will disappear.
Only through this prayer can these flows of vital energy elevate to the top of our head. Advanced practitioners who feel the concentration of spiritual energy on the top of their head should guide these flows of vital energy toward higher and lighter planes.
When the living beings from our food transcend to the higher spheres, we'll also harmonize with their evolution, and we'll feel lighter and purer.
Invoking this prayer after a meal allows all beings to advance in common. Praying before a meal is just dependency, and is useless.
We must be responsible for what we have eaten and elevate this energy. Only then are we truly righteous.
When invoking NAM MO BAT NHA BA LA MAT DA, we immediately feel the saliva flowing and the energy concentrating on the top of the head. This is the progression toward the higher spheres.
SAC BAT DI KHONG, KHONG BAT DI SAC: All beings are equal; all have the opportunity to elevate toward higher planes. Form and color return to emptiness.
THOI NHUT KIEN, NGU UAN GIAI KHONG: We no longer feel the presence of our head. All sense organs have sublimated into the sphere of lightness and purity. Only then will we be able to bring all living beings to the lighter spheres.
THO TUONG HINH THUC, DIET PHUC NHU THI: Every being in the micro-universe is progressing along with the soul to advance on the path of spiritual perfection.
Invoke NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT three times. Then bow and pause.
3.4. BOWING EXERCISE (LẠY KIẾNG VÔ VI)
People who have a Vô-Vi mirror can practice the bowing exercise.
When bowing, think about one bow to honor your filial piety toward your father, and one bow to honoryour filial piety toward your mother.
These bows will balance the nervous system, and regulate the blood circulation.
Each time you do 50 bows, you will feel healthier, and will strengthen your heart and liver.
3.5 AUXILIARY EXERCISE FOR ENERGY CIRCULATION (THỂ DỤC TRỢ LUÂN)
Here is a demonstration of the Auxiliary Exercise to improve energy circulation.
Whether you meditate or not, you can practice this exercise every day to regulate the blood circulation, and particularly to cure hemorrhoids, or prevent high blood pressure.
Do this exercise 300 times. It is very good for your health.
“NAM” indicates the South, the Gate to Heaven. The vibratory word NAM indicates the South and represents the Fire Binh-Dinh. It is the projection of energy from the frontal psychic center located between the eyebrows. Two sources of energy (from the two eyes) unite and project out.
“MO” indicates the invisible energy world, lively scenes from the upper spheres which can be perceived with the eyes closed.
“A” corresponds to the Water Nham-Qui converges at the renal psychic center. This is the convergence point of the renal water and prana energy. An imbalance of energy in the kidneys will cause insomnia. On the other hand, a good energy flow will bring a sound and healthy sleep.
“DI” means the preservation of the three jewels: Seminal or sexual essence energy (Tinh), vital breath energy (Khi), and spiritual energy (Than). When these three energies converge and transcend to the higher spheres, the individual will regain his quietude and become well-balanced.
“DA” is a halo of golden light which encompasses everything. When we reach serenity, the light of compassion will emanate from our body and protect it with a golden aura.
“PHAT” is serenity within. When we understand ourselves, we'll repent and correct our mistakes to improve ourselves and reach purity and lightness.
When practicing the mental invocation of the “NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT”, the spiritual adept must also understand its principle.
Beginners should practice the mental invocation of “NAM-MO-A DI-DA-PHAT” as follows:
With the practice of the mental invocation of “NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT,” the six psychic centers (chakras) will be activated, and the spiritual adept will return to his pure and serene nature. Eventually, a halo of energy will be formed.
During his life of spiritual perfection, Buddha Amitabha only practices the invocation of “NAM MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT., He can go everywhere in what is called “the Universe” as soon as He enters the state of spiritual ecstasy.,His soul immediately ejects out.
Armed only with a thorough understanding of the principle “NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT”, He can reach everypart of this universe, for all things are made up of the four elements: Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth.
So, when we mentally invoke “NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT” with diligence like Buddha Amitabha, we will certainly meet Him one day and will be able to help many other people in the future.
As our spiritual energy richly gathers, our compassion will grow steadily and we will never think of harming others, but only think of helping all beings free themselves from bondage and move up to higher spheres.
No longer blocked and experiencing likes or dislikes, our Spiritual Energy is not part of the realm of Martial Buddhas; it belongs to the realm of Literary Buddhas.
I repeat once more the principle of “NAM-MO-A-DI-DA-PHAT”:
5.1 Q&A Part 1 (VẤN ĐÁP – Phần 1)
I am Nguyen-thi-Xuan-An, currently living in Fountain Valley, California, USA. Today, it is my great honor to interview Mr. Lương-Sĩ-Hằng on the Vô-Vi Applied Esoteric Science of Buddha Dharma.
Q1: Dear Sir, we know that you have been practicing the Vo-Vi Meditation for a long time. What is so important about this meditation that makes you want to leave it for posterity?
A1: Why do I practice the Vo-Vi method? Because life is so full of agitations; in my life from the time I was young until now I have seen only agitations in everyone’s lives; from the poorest to the wealthiest, everyone carries all kinds of agitations.
So, I decided to look for a method of spiritual cultivation; this one has helped me find serenity, even at my age of 70. Ithink it would be a precious gift to humankind, so I want to leave behind the evidence of what I have practiced and gained, so that people who follow me, if they are willing to practice this method, will be able to eliminate the sorrows they have inside, and help many more people in the future save themselves.
Q2: How do you define correct spiritual cultivation?
A2: A person who correctly cultivates spiritually must practice correctly; he must know where his soul came from. Oursoul, light and pure, came into our physical body, then we continue our lives in sorrows: all of us humans, no matter rich or poor, in power or powerless, live life suffering. So it shows that mankind has now lost the original serenity they had at birth!
When people cultivate spiritually, they will recover that original serenity, and they will see the true original nature of mankind: no birth, no death.
Q3: Thank you, Sir. Can you explain which Vo-Vi characteristics can lead us to serenity?
A3: We must commit ourselves! When we came down to earth, we already committed to suffering. Man is the master of his physical body, yet he doesn’t know how to be the master.
He lets his physical self pull him along, so he shows greediness for everything, destroying the Heavenly Laws, polluting his body systems, bringing chaos to his mind; his soul is now sunk down low with no escape in sight.
But when man practices spiritual cultivation, he will recover his serenity; he will thus easily go back to his original state at birth naturally and spontaneously.
Q4: Dear Sir, can you please clarify the meaning of “Vô-Vi”?
A4: The term “Vo Vi”? “Vo” means nothingness; “Vi” means, even the infinitesimal is diminishing to nothingness. So, when we thoroughly understand the “Vo Vi” principle, we will see that in life there is no need for competition, which can only create more sorrows for ourselves.
Vo-Vi is to advance toward purity and enlightenment.
In order to understand Vo-Vi, let’s look at the sun: the sun shows no form, yet is very bright. Man’s light of compassion is even brighter than the sun.
This clearly confirms that it was man's lucidity that created the light bulb, and not the light bulb that created man.
Q5: Can you tell us which are the fundamental exercises of the Vo-Vi method?
A5: The Concentration of Spiritual Energy, the Cyclical Breathing, and the Meditative Contemplation are the fundamentalexercises.
But, as worldly agitations overwhelm us, beginning practitioners should first practice the Concentration of Spiritual Energy and the Lying Down Abdominal Breathing in order to eliminate and lessen their internal toxicities through breathing.
Once they are more settled, they can start the actual Vo Vi Meditation Practice, which consists of the Concentration of Spiritual Energy, Cyclical Breathing Without Retention, and Meditative Contemplation, in order to continue their spiritual development.
Q6: The exercise of “Concentration of Spiritual Energy” has a very unusual name. Please clarify it for us. Is it an attempt to focus the soul's lucidity?
A6: The “Concentration of Spiritual Energy” exercise exerts pressure on certain nervous system pathways, because the Spiritual Energy activates these pathways.
Whenever the Spiritual Energy is even slightly off, these pathways go off course, resulting in people turning their minds outwardly, gossiping about others’ affairs rather than focusing on working on themselves!
Thus the “Concentration of Spiritual Energy” exercise helps rectify the mind, calm it down and move it on the direction of balance.
At that point the mind will develop and direct itself upward to spiritual enlightenment. The more the mind develops, the faster its vibrations and the clearer and lighter it becomes.
Q7: Dear Sir, how can this “Concentration of Spiritual Energy” exercise help rectify the human mind?
A7: Through our own efforts! Because it depends on which way we direct ourselves.
A person who all day long gossips about the affairs of others will have his mind pulled and tightened by external circumstances, eventually becoming full of fears, attached to life and afraid of death!
A mild tempered person who lets go of karmic retributions, does not mind others’ affairs but only concentrates on working on his own character, will certainly just improve and not regress.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q&A Part 1 (VẤN ĐÁP PHẦN 1) (cont’d):
1A7 (cont’d): … On the other hand, a serene person would release all attachments to worldly things, stay uninvolved with the problems of others, and be concerned only with self-improvement. Consequently, he can only advance, and will not regress.
1Q8: You say that the Abdominal Breathing exercise can release one's blocked energy. Please explain how it can do this?
1A8: Where does this blocked energy arise?
In this world, people are envious of the rich and intellectual, irritated with the poor, and angry with the powerful. These attitudes disturb the balance of the liver and the body circulation.
The Abdominal Breathing exercise aims at inhaling and exhaling pure air. This is a very gentle way to eliminate the toxins from one's organs. The liver will be stabilized, and we will function more orderly.
When the circulation among the heart, the liver, and kidneys improves, we will feel energized and well-rested.
1Q9: Dear Sir, you say that we should meditate at midnight: “Universally, this time is free of disturbances. We use this time to eliminate all body toxins through the breathing exercises in order to cure ourselves of illnesses.” Please explain further.
1A9: The hours from 11PM until 1AM are free of disturbances: These are the hours when Heaven and Earth are opening up. All living beings are quiet in accordance with the universal law of evolution.
We then make use of the pure energy of Heaven and Earth to eliminate all blocked and impure energy collected during daily activities. Only then can we feel light. We lean on the quietude of this period to evolve further.
1Q10: You say that, “The Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention assists in regulating the flow of Yin and Yang energy in the body.” Please explain further.
1A10: The Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention helps regulate our energy that is disturbed by our daily activities and concerns.
We should practice the Cyclical Breathing of Non-Retention Exercise at night to clear away these disturbances.
Why must we order ourselves to: “Fill up the navel, up the chest, up to the head”?
When we inhale, the body will be filled with pure air to eliminate impurities. Make a genuine effort to inhale deeply, and see that within this most agitated state comes the serene state. The more air we take in, the closer we'll come to the serene state.
We thoroughly complete six breaths to stabilize our mind. Then, with eyes closed, we'll see the light that elevates us to thestate of lightness.
1Q11: You say that the Continuous Cyclic Breathing while sitting up exercise can develop one's mind. How can we help ourselves to get a better flow of energy so that we can develop our mind? How do these two things relate to each other?
1A11: The spiritual mind is total awareness.
When stabilized, we feel joyful and light. Our mind becomes more open. We no longer retain pettiness, or have negative thoughts toward others.
1Q12: Dear Sir, there are a number of practitioners who would like to ask you more about the Continuous Cyclic Breathing exercise: Do they still need to complete from 6 to 12 breath cycles when they already feel light?
1A12: We must continue the exercises, just as we must continue to eat.
The breathing exercise helps eliminate toxins from our colon, so your inner organs will become clean and healthy. Done correctly, six breath cycles are enough.
Many people do from 12 to 30 breath cycles because they are weak. Those with more strength only need six breath cycles to begin to perspire in a hot climate, and to feel warm in a cold weather.
Thank You, Sir.
5.2 Q&A Part 2 (VẤN ĐÁP Phần 2)
2Q1: Dear Sir, you explained that we must give orders to ourselves while doing the Continuous Cyclic Breathing exercise: “Fill up the navel, up the chest, up to the head!” Why so?
2A1: Negative thoughts will bring the energy to the wrong path, leading to incorrect thoughts.
If we direct the thought to sexual desires, the energy will go toward sexual desires. If we think about helping others, the energy will go there. If we think of evolution toward the Middle Path, the energy will be directed to that area, instead of toward agitation.
For this reason, we must give orders for our visceral entities to follow; otherwise they will lure us into doing something else.
We are not alone in this body, which is a microcosm from a combination of the elements metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. This microcosm’s many activities are governed by 12 visceral entities.
If we fail to give orders to discipline them, they can revolt and talk us into many different things.
We would fall into darkness if our master soul agrees with these entities, or if our lucidity is eclipsed by their suggestions. Only with self-control can our mind remain lucid and develop toward the Middle Path.
2Q2: Dear Sir, what gauge do we use to assess and know that we are on the right path?
2A2: We must practice every night regularly, so that the exercises of Concentration of Spiritual Energy and ContinuousCyclic Breathing can be done with ease, and we can rest with peace.
We practice the Invocation of the Eightfold Essential Points to control the flow of energy.
If the energy is flowing smoothly, you are on the correct path. If it flows with irregularity, you still need to improve yourself. If normally, it flows smoothly and regularly, but today it doesn't, we must seek the reasons and correct ourselves, so that the regular flow of energy can be recovered.
2Q3: One last question about the Continuous Cyclic Breathing: Why do you mention "Fill up the navel, the chest, up to the head"?
2A3: The navel is related with the colon. Filling up the navel activates the colon, and stimulates the kidneys, so that the flow of energy can reach the brain. To care about the colon is the same as to care about the brain.
Continuous Cyclic Breathing helps to take in the pure air for renewal of the thin layer of the body cells and for the maintenance of the inner organs. The body will become lighter.
One uses the vital breath of Heaven and Earth to nurture the human organism. One will have more stamina, and will be less prone to illness.
2Q4: Do we have to direct our breath to go from the navel up to the chest, then to the head?
2A4: We give directives to ourselves as follows: “Fill up the navel, up to the chest, then to the head”; we don't direct the breath below the navel to avoid disturbance of the Kundalini which can cause redness of the eyes.
This is a disturbance of the nervous system.
When we inhale correctly, it is safe. Only when we breathe in and push the breath further down below the navel, our eyes will become red.
This symptom can cause the body to become overheated which results in a mentally unbalanced behavior.
Many practitioners have mistakenly believed that they must breathe in with much physical effort just as in fighting. If we believe this, then learning the martial arts is better than meditation.
Of course, meditation must relate with the state of lightness. Meditation is the gentle way to evolve.
It's not correct if we use physical strength like in the martial arts, which is not applicable to meditation.
Many practitioners have done the exercise incorrectly. Therefore, I must, myself, give a demonstration on a video tape, so that others can see and follow correctly.
Be persistent on a daily basis. Don't rush or give up training or change to other practices. Other methods will not produce better results.
If we are unfaithful to the path, we'll only stagnate, and cannot evolve. This will give way to sorrow.
2Q5: The Continuous Cyclic Breathing exercise is followed by the Meditative Contemplation. Please explain the Meditative Contemplation, because many practitioners keep bowing their heads and tilting their bodies while they meditate. Is this correct?
2A5: If the Continuous Cyclic Breathing is done correctly, we will reach stability of mind. If done properly, we will neither lean forward, fall into sleep, nor be in a disarranged posture.
The Continuous Cyclic Breathing helps improve the mind to relate with the frequency of the universal light. Only at this point, can we feel light and joyful when closing our eyes.
The longer we practice the Meditative Contemplation, the happier we become. We are not disturbed about the length of time anymore.
We meditate long enough without being concerned about time. We enjoy practicing the Meditative Contemplation longer instead of rushing ourselves to complete the practice. This shows that we are reaching the proper level of lightness.
2Q6: You have said that all actions, reactions, difficulties, and sorrows in life are planned to guide us toward serenity. Please kindly explain more clearly.
2A6: What can people do if they are oppressed by all kinds of actions and reactions? Only serenity can solve their problems.
Just accept with resignation that the matter will be solved. Players who lose in gambling will keep on playing, with hope to recover the lost amount; and they will lose even more.
Even till death, be resigned and accept the loss. Then, slowly you will have some occasion to recover. Training in the spiritual path is exactly the same.
We must accept to the maximum degree whatever life hands us, to be able to liberate our karmic attachments. We can never train ourselves toward the spiritual path when lacking resignation.
It's very difficult to evolve to higher levels. Whatever level we reach, we still feel unclean and even more contaminated than others who are at that same level. Then we must become resigned to progress further.
The requirements are the same as when working in an office: to be promoted to a better job, we must learn resignation.
2Q7: Dear Sir, according to your understanding then, man must be very strong to be able to accept things. There are many people who think that resignation will lead them to inferiority. What do you think about that?
2A7: We take the sun as granted and sometimes forget its presence. Of course, man cannot be superior to the sun. Man needs sunshine to live. Despite man's carelessness, the sun resignedly keeps shining to the earth.
So what is resignation for? It serves to improve the attitudes of our friends. They will encounter more agitated people, and will be awakened by our example of resignation.
If we are quiet, we can influence others better, which allows them to become more aware of themselves.
Our right attitude will assist them. We must learn to resign ourselves to keep our family happy. Be a kind mother and a gentle wife to bring harmony to the family. Man should be a kind husband and considerate father.
Aggression is inferior to resignation. Aggression can never win over compassion. Resignation generates a compassionate heart, willing to help others selflessly, undaunted by obstacles and defiant of adversities.
Our utmost resignation will help the progression of our friends. A resigned attitude shows that we are good people with good intentions.
Q&A Part 2 (cntn’d)
2Q8: Dear Sir, does the Vo-Vi Esoteric Science assist the practitioners to accomplish self-healing and to re-establish the balance of their innate consciousness? Can you explain more about that innate consciousness?
2A8: The innate consciousness within each person is the stability which originates from the Great Serenity.
It is basically the stability of mind. While we are babies, we are very stable. Even if our parents run out of food to eat, we remain undisturbed. But now, we are concerned with every little thing.
This proves that we have lost that innate consciousness and become unstable. So we must regain that state of lightness.
With the Vo-Vi method, we will recover that innate consciousness. If we diligently practice the Cyclical Breathing, we will clearly become aware of our consciousness.
The Vo-Vi method is not theory. Only with practice will we be creative and helpful to others. This is total selflessness.
2Q9: Dear Sir, how can we know that this is the right spiritual method?
2A9: This method aims at eliminating impurities and preserving purity. Since residing in this physical body, we must eat and drink; so toxins are accumulated in this impure body. Therefore we must eliminate the impurities and cleanse ourselves.
Any method that can help us to cleanse these impurities away is the right method. A method is not correct if it creates more impurities which will lead us to be controlled by external forces.
Q&A Part 3 (VẤN ĐÁP Phần 3)
3Q1: Dear Sir, why do you say that being controlled by external forces is the wrong method?
3A1: We think of God or Buddha without knowing where they are. We just dream and dream, and that wrong perspective can weaken our nervous system and hinder our spiritual evolution.
God is omnipresent, omniscient, and most compassionate toward salvation of all living beings. His courage is omnipotent and brings faith to the spiritual adept who must follow His example.
Man must learn God's resignation. Then all things will work together for good.
3Q2: Dear Sir, you have spoken of Light. You said that the ultimate goal of man is to become the Light. Please explain further.
3A2: Right. Man is the Light. He is not an ordinary entity. In fact, he is a spark of divine light. Therefore, the human brain is unconquerable under any circumstance.
I do appreciate very much getting help from others, but within me, I know that I must accomplish serenity for myself. I am not an ordinary entity. I am the light on earth, a creation of God.
Many people have not properly followed the spiritual path, because they depend on the guidance of God and Buddha, and ignore their own potential, which leads to the instability of their innate consciousness regardless of the number of years that they have trained themselves.
It's only toward life's end that they become aware of their mistakes. We don't want to wait for life's end to become more aware.
3Q3: Dear Sir, you say that man is a very precious entity, so man must search for the spiritual path, and not vice versa. Can you explain it further?
3A3: Right. Man must experience sorrowfirst before being able to cross over the threshold of the Buddhist Dharma. We are only free from material concerns after experiencing sorrow.
For example, a thief tries his best to become rich, and not until he is tired of his failure, will he begin to give up his vileness and start his search for the spiritual path. Only then, will his soul become lighter.
3Q4: Dear Sir, many people are still very frightened of losing their jobs, of poverty, and of many other things. What is your point of view on this matter?
3A4: They are frightened due to their lack of serenity. They are not fully aware of their role on earth: Each human brain is a spark of light on this earth.
Man can never progress if he lacks resignation. Problems can only be resolved with acceptance.
There are many thieves who are caught and jailed. After being in jail, they give up their weapons.
These people are resolute people. They resolve to change their ways, and improve. There is a saying that, “One can become a Buddha when one gives up one's weapon.”
Man only endangers himself if he feels threatened by all sorts of things. Since man has a potential in this universe, why doesn't he want to accept resignation, so that he can realize harmony? If he does so, how can he go hungry?
If he agrees to give good service to others, no one would allow him to starve. A person who ties himself up and complains about suffering is causing sorrow to himself. In reality, there is no sorrow.
Man is present on earth to evolve through learning, and to accept all actions and reactions to progress toward serenity.
For this reason, we need to not only be involved in the practice of spiritual exercises, but also in the performance of social services to obtain good results on the spiritual path.
Social life doesn't give us any support; it only challenges us in many ways. We need to remain calm to improve the quality of life.
The simultaneous practice of spiritual exercises and fulfillment of social services are complementing - without social life, we wouldn't know the value of serenity.
We would not value a drop of water if we were not thirsty. We would not value light if there were no darkness.
The spiritual adept longs for light, and he can't reach that light if he doesn't accept. Acceptance is the ability to attain the state of lightness and openness.
Everything in life is nothingness. Nothing is real. Many people have taken things to heart, but finally there is nothing everlasting. We come here with empty hands, and we will leave this place with empty hands.
Many millionaires are very busy making money and never think of death, but they have to leave their body after a certain time. What leaves the body? The soul!
The soul will be responsible for the deeds it has sown. It will either sink into oblivion or attain its own lightness. After death, if the soul must go through suffering, that is a state that it must accept to evolve.
Therefore, the Divine Law doesn't condemn or kill anybody; it only rescues living beings. This is the Great Compassion which will provide us everything we like.
If we like hardship, It will provide us hardship. If we like comfort, It will provide us comfort. But at the end, everything must return to serenity for further evolution.
3Q5: Dear Sir, if a person is really serious about leading a life of spiritual perfection, he must practice resignation. How can he earn a living?
3A5: If he really cultivates the virtue of resignation and doesn't limit himself to the thought of making money, he will be more receptive to trust in God and the Buddhas.
Many people have abandoned a busy social life to retreat to a more peaceful place, but they still have enough to sustain their daily life.
God doesn't neglect those with good hearts who know resignation. In this modern society, we see that many things have been achieved with the acceptance of resignation - just like going to school, we must be patient, we must resign to learn.
So it is for a spiritual adept: he also must resign to learn and to improve his character. When his character is improved, he will become a reliable person everyone can trust.
People look for a person with the quality of resignation and patience whom they can trust, and not a person with a hot temper and disorderly manners.
So, there is no need to worry. We only need to cultivate our virtue of resignation, then we can naturally make money.
3Q6: In this current economy, we need to struggle and compete with one another in our jobs and social interactions. How can a spiritual adept live within this environment?
3A6: Struggle and competition are not to our advantage; so, we don't need to be concerned about this.
What we do need is the practice of resignation, so that we can work more productively than those who are concerned with rivalry and competition. In this way, we'll certainly have a good position in the future.
In any company, the head of management always pays attention to the person who is the most tolerant. God and the Buddhas also care for the spiritual adept who is the most resigned.
3Q7: If we make an effort to practice diligently the Vo-Vi Esoteric Science, we will be able to get rid of those inner fears and return to serenity. Is that correct?
3A7: Yes, try your best to practice meditation, then there is nothing to be worried about. Food costs are reasonable, and if we are careful to avoid waste and be content with fewer material belongings, our hearts will be more at peace.
The more we meditate, the more lucid we become. At that time, God will provide us with everything, so we do not need to worry about anything.
Thank you very much.
